Life QI

Training courses

We run a range of quality improvement training courses, as we aim to meet all needs and requirements.

Much of our training is based on the NHS Improvement Act Academy quality, service improvement and redesign (QSIR) programme.

Courses are open to our colleagues, partner organisations, volunteers, patients and others who use our services. They are for anyone who would like to get involved and to find out more about quality improvement (QI).

We have our one day Fundamentals course and our five day QSIR Practitioner course - which are normally delivered face-to-face, in group sessions.

We also have courses we can run virtually, including our new QI Lite, which is a two-hour session which covers all you will need to get started on a project.

Also, please see our QI Bitesize training animations to help you, which can be found here on our Tools page.

We run a range of quality improvement training courses. Please get in touch to find out more.

QI Lite

QI Lite is an interactive two hour course, which gives participants a quick and basic understanding of quality improvement (QI).

It introduces QI methodology and the most commonly used tools, which include SMART aims, driver diagrams, process mapping, plan do study act (PDSA) cycles, run charts and statistical process control (SPC) charts.

During QI Lite we demonstrate how to take a project from start to finish and include the importance of collecting data and demonstrating improvement.

QI Lite is for Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust (KCHFT) colleagues, service users, carers and colleagues from partner organisations who are keen to learn core QI skills.

Below are the QI Lite dates coming up:

  • Wednesday, 17 May 2023 - 9am to 11am
  • Wednesday, 14 June 2023 - 10am to 12noon
  • Monday, 3 July 2023 - 1pm to 3pm

Bitesize QI

Bitesize QI is for those who want a quick run-down on the most commonly used quality improvement tools.

Each animation is around five minutes long and explains how to use a tool, why you might want to use a particular tool and how it could help.

Please see our Bitesize QI animations on our Tools page. We are continually adding to the animations available.

Fundamentals one-day course

In this course you will learn the basic theories of quality improvement and will be shown how to start a project of your own.

The course includes an introduction to QI, the opportunity to learn about the QI tools and methodology and helps you to get a project underway. The course equips you with more information on how you can influence change. Participants will learn the know-how to design and implement more efficient and patient-centred services.

Please note, if a course is fully booked, we can add your name to a waiting list, as we do have late cancellations, so you may still get a place.

It’s a fun and interactive course to learn the key elements of QI.

Please note: Fundamentals courses run from 9am, for registration, with a prompt 9.30am start and aim to finish at 4.30pm.

The workshop highlights how you can bring about improvements in the services you provide and those you support.

Quality, service improvement and redesign (QSIR) Practitioners five-day course

This is for those who want to go into more depth, to run complex projects or offer support to others. Participants complete five training days, usually over six months.

It is an NHS Improvement accredited course where participants can learn the skills needed to lead QI projects.

Here at Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust (KCHFT) we aim to have sufficient numbers of QSIR P trained colleagues in each service/division. Services and divisions will invite colleagues to attend this course.

If you are interested in doing this course, please speak with your line manager or service lead in the first instance, as delegates are nominated by their divisions.

We look forward to welcoming you on this course.

QI measurement tips webinar

This one hour webinar will provide a summary and refresher of QI measurement tools, including the sustainability model, run charts, statistical process control (SPC) charts and pareto charts.

We will be sharing some helpful tips on how you can use these tools in a simple but effective way and give you the opportunity to try one of the tools as part of the session.

This webinar is for Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust (KCHFT) colleagues, patients, carers and those who use our services and colleagues from partner organisations, who may already have a working knowledge of QI.

More dates coming soon. Contact the QI team, via our Support page, to register your interest.

Working with our partners

Colleagues from partner organisations are welcome to the training events we are holding in quality improvement (QI) – as well as our own staff.

For those interested in learning more about QI we offer a one-day QI fundamentals course and a five-day quality service improvement and redesign (QSIR) practitioners course.

Medical Director Sarah Phillips, said: “We’re offering the training to colleagues external to KCHFT to promote collaboration. Making use of the same tools and techniques provides consistency which benefits all.”

Our own colleagues and external colleagues who would like to book or to find out more should email the Quality Improvement Team on kentchft.qi@nhs.net.
