The East Kent Acute Response Team (ART) at Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust were finding that patients receiving treatment on the virtual ward, were not always being seen by the most appropriate health care professional.
Often advanced clinical practitioners (ACPs) and doctors would be doing tasks that could be completed by a nurse or healthcare assistant (HCA).
They developed a SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time bound) aim to increase bed usage on the virtual ward from 32 to 40, by improving allocation of tasks to the most appropriate member of the team, by April 2023.
