Raising confidence to better support patients

Community speech and language therapists set out to improve confidence and clarity around their role in supporting patients with gastro-oesophageal dysphagia.

Data showed that around a third of dysphagia patients have gastro issues, yet only 17.6 per cent of the team felt confident about their role in triaging and managing these. A quality improvement (QI) project was launched to raise confidence with nearly 60 per cent of colleagues feeling confident after changes were made.
