Clinical co-ordinator to speak at national conference

Sarah Denton

One of our colleagues is to be a guest speaker at a national patient safety conference which takes place in June.

Sarah Denton, a Clinical Co-ordinator with Thanet Long Term Services, is to speak at the Government Events’ upcoming Patient Safety 2021: Driving Improvement in Systems and Culture Across the NHS, taking place online on 29 June.

Sarah will talk about a quality improvement (QI) project she ran at Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust – which looked at upskilling colleagues, boosting staff morale and making sure everyone felt valued.

Staff sickness rates were reduced by 76 per cent –with colleagues much happier as a result of the changes. Several colleagues were also successful in applications for new roles at higher bands, thanks to investment in their education and skills.

The knock-on effect was that patient care was improved, along with patient safety, with an increase in incidents being reported. With a culture of transparency the likelihood of a serious incident was dramatically reduced.

Other speakers are to include:

  • John Mead, Technical Claims Director, NHS Resolution
  • Professor Graham Martin, Director of Research, THIS Institute, University of Cambridge
